iLL Manors Film Review

Ill Manors is a multi-stranded urban crime drama set in east London, the introduction to this feature film from the director and rapper Ben drew also known as Plan B on stage, developed from his widely hailed song of the same name which is linked to the 2011 riots. The first half of the movie is amazing; creative, chaotic and energetic but after all of this the dynamism and worrying leaks out of the film. Due to this the movie turns into a upsetting and disappointing in a way because it had a positive start.

Apart of the story there is a narrative of Ben Drew being the narrator uses his music to tell the story which changes the whole concept of the film making an art and gives the narration in a different way which builds the interest of the film as this is different for a movie which had only £100,000 budget and it made half million pounds and this good meaning that what Ben Drew was trying to show was shown in the way he wanted. The story changes a lot as for example in the scenes it gives a different type of audience as I believe it is for teenagers and that once you’re in problem you need to get out and that you don’t join gangs or get in trouble that your young and should try be educated. However in this film they represent that there is a cycle that young generation wants to be like these drug dealers and want to be these thieves.

The film importance is when Aaron would have to look after this baby which is surprising left alone in a pram and he has no choice to take it as police are outside the station and has dogs who can sniff drugs so he would have to hide it in baby to make himself look like a father and deal with a baby problem. Later on he goes to his friend Ed for help who consider that they should think of something later but Aaron wants to at least try to save the mother and let the baby have a life that he didn't have at least and you learn this over time as Aaron is slowly having enough of the life and wants to be better and doesn't want to be in the same place where he doesn't sell drugs and also this hit him when he saw the woman prostituting for no reason.

The film is all suspense till the end and gives an important message that Ben Drew enforces about rough areas around the UK that it is hard to get out but you can do it that there is an end and you would have to wisely on what you want to do that there are different paths but sometimes you would have to take a dark one for yourself to make yourself successful but not go as plan. Gives the idea that to young people who are in those areas learnt that it is bad to sell drugs and that its bad overall to do anything against law even if getting paid and if getting all this respect it can change your life into an negative way and this movie shows you scenario of what happens and brings different views. And the characters give you a personal relationship as you feel bad for them as they’re only a child or that it shouldn't be like this.

Ill manors give an outstanding job of an movie and I think that it should be watched and should be for every young adult and teach that not everyone can go through a good path that people still need help that it’s not easy to have good things happen in an environment where they sell drugs and break the law. However this movie has good comedy moment and teaches about other parts such as growing and moving on in life and also helping other people in life as Aaron the main character aim is just to help in the end and be the best he can and change to a new leaf even though his character is shown as a ‘rude boy’ he wants be more than that and Ben Drew makes a great debut of a film in my opinion and makes us feel sympathy of the type of location he was brought up  and see the corruption, negativity and poison in events we see in the film a must see.
